"Asymmetry is the rhythm in which we live our lives."

Assignment:
Take at least five pictures of things or situations which capture
the phrase written as my title for this post.

Asymmetry: lack or absence of symmetry in spatial arrangements or in mathematical or logical relations (dictionary definition)

If divided into equal halves, neither side is a mirror image,
yet it still finds balance through negative space or grouping in such a way
that one side has the same weight as the other (my definition)

Asymmetry is meant to counteract the monotony symmetry can sometimes create, to be rhythmic, and to create an interesting pattern or path for your eye to follow. This can be achieved by thinking in threes, avoiding diagonals, and using a back and forth type of direction.
The students waiting for the bus create a subtle triangle and the space the two students on the right, around a lighter background, balance out the single student on the left, around a heavier background.

The two students sitting lower to the ground create visual contrast against the single student standing on the left.

The subtle vertical movements between the fleur de lis on the left and right create an interesting path, however, I do wish there was a slightly larger height difference between the left and middle symbols to give even more contrast.

This one is my most poor example of asymmetry. It  works in terms of not being the same if divided in half, however it doesn't work because it needs a third element to offset the severe diagonal created between the painting and vase of flowers.

This example shows four separate examples of asymmetry because the paint drips create a wonderful up and down/left and right movement.
